Marcos Cueto


Marcus Cueto has a degree in history from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (1982), a master’s (1983) and doctorate (1988) in history from Columbia University, New York, and a post-doctorate in the Science, Medicine and Society program at MIT (1991). He is also a full professor at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia and a tenured researcher at Instituto de Estudios Peruanos, Lima, where he served as director-general from 2009 to 2011. In the United States, he was a visiting professor at Stanford, Princeton, Columbia and New York universities. He is assistant editor of História, Ciências, Saúde – Manguinhos. He received scholarships from the Guggenheim, Mellon, Tinker, Ford and Rockefeller foundations, and prizes from the Latin American Studies Association and the History of Science Society. He is currently a senior visiting research fellow at COC/Fiocruz and a visiting professor at the graduate program in the History of Science and Health at the same institution. His current research interests are the history of health in Latin America, global health, and the history of the World Health Organization.
